IT PAYS TO BE A VIP AT THRIFT TOWN.
Are you signed up as a VIP? There’s a lucky girl in Texas who’s SO happy she is. We love our customers and want you all to not only be in the loop on sales and promotions, but also be rewarded for your loyalty to our company. We were counting down the weeks to finally draw a winner for this big giveaway and the opportunity to spoil one of our VIP’s. It was a blast traveling to Texas and meeting our winner, Sara!
(did you catch last week’s post with all the southern fun?)
{While in Texas, Ashley & I with the promo poster for the trip we were on. }
“You won US for the day!”

What did she win exactly? The VIP giveaway winner received:
- Two $250 gift cards to Thrift Town
- A personal Wardrobe consultation with Thrift Town’s stylist (that’s me!)
- Thrift decor help/tips with Ashley T., and
- Feature on our site and blog, and social media.
Since our winner’s home store is in North Richland Hills, we did all our shopping and styling with her there
- and boy did we find cute stuff! Thanks to the crew at the North Richland Hills store for hosting us!
In order to make the most of our day together, I talked with our winner before the trip, got all of her sizes, and asked a bunch of questions about her personal style. That way I could get put a new wardrobe together that works best for her.
Ashley and I arrived a few hours before Sara and pulled a full rack of options to start with.
Here’s our winner Sara and her brother right when they arrived…
excited but a little unsure about what exactly this big day had in store!
Ashley got Sara some GREAT books on DIY decor, home thrifting projects and being secondhand chic. Books like these are such a great resource for getting the most out of shopping secondhand, and we wanted our winner fully equipped. We could have spent a whole day just on DIY home project fun, but there was a LOT of clothes shopping to be done.

Red hair + fair skin is a tricky combination to pair with bold colors. Sara wasn’t quite sure how to do color and not clash with her hair, so usually ends up in all neutral or dark colors. I was determined to help Sara find some key feminine wardrobe pieces that complimented her gorgeous hair, and not shy away from vibrant colors. It’s all about education and trying new things!
We started with a color we know works to ease her into the process. This dress is perfect to dress up or down: jersey knit, a great rich charcoal color, and to define her shape - throw on a belt at the narrowest part of the waist. It’s so wonderful to not only be able to show someone how amazing they can look when clothes fit their frame well, but to also teach them tools so they can grow from there in order to expand a thrifty wardrobe on her own. Love this dress on her!
Woo-hoo color! This combination of soft brown and sunny muted yellow did wonderful things with her hair and complexion. Paired with simple white slacks, this “Under $20 look” can be worn into fall with a cardigan over the blouse.
Although Sara is pretty quiet & reserved, you can tell she was warming up to the process, and feeling super cute in this look!
Soft warm layers for colder weather - she’s feelin’ it! These jeans were under $5, and fit her great.
We ended up with 3 pairs of jeans at the end of the day for under $20 total. Can’t beat that!
Our goals were fit, color and femininity - this dress has it all! If you’re a redhead, you HAVE to try shades of purple. So pretty. For under $10, it was a must-have.
Blues and greens were a big hit on Sara, so we mixed up patterns and solids to add some fun. For fall/winter, throw on some leggings, boots and a chunky sweater over a cute dress like this and you’ve got the perfect bright snuggly look.
This gray sleeveless cardigan is a great staple for any wardrobe.
With or without a belt, over dresses or jeans, for under $5 this is the most versatile piece we picked out.
At this point, Sara is feeling pretty great - we’re finding pieces that have color, good fit and are functional for her life. This dress is similar to the awesome jersey dress we found but is silk, sleeveless and can be worn a little more dressy. We covered all the bases!
Structured cropped jackets are a chic way to pull together a dressy outfit.
This name-brand piece with pretty details and bold print was under $10,
and looks awesome over the simple gray silk dress Sara got.
This is, hands-down everyone’s favorite of the day: The fit, and color are just perfect! This should be her go-to color, cause, WOW! It is my goal as a stylist for clients to walk out of the dressing room feeling beautiful, comfortable and ready to confidently take on the world, and this dress was definitely that piece. You look gorgeous, Sara!
Bringing in warm brown beading is perfect with red hair.
And for a no-fuss kinda girl like Sara, this dress practically has jewelry built-in.
We couldn’t forget outerwear - it’s going to get cold out in Texas.
We couldn’t believe this jacket was $3.99!
Such a fun color, and just the piece to throw on over something basic to really give it some pop.
So much pattern and color to send home with
the girl who used to wear mostly dark tops and jeans.
Watch out, Texas!
Shopping with $250 for a whole new wardrobe is a marathon!
Back in her regular clothes, she’s so excited with her new brighter palette.
Dresses, jeans, jackets, tops, scarves, sweaters and jewelry and she still spent under $200! Sara can now come back and keep shopping with the rest of her $250 gift card, but now she has a better idea of how to shop thrift, what colors work best for her and how to fit her frame.
The girls at the end of a wonderful shopping day! (Ashley, Sara and I)
All in all, we had a blast, and are so happy to have met the lovely Sara.
And trust me, she is SO glad she was signed up as a VIP! If you’re at the end of this post and still haven’t signed up to be a VIP, click here to do it right now!
