The holidays are upon us and the hustle and bustle of shopping
for the perfect gifts has definitely kicked into high gear.
We are always looking for ways to inspire creativity, and thrifty living. What better way than inexpensive gift ideas? When it comes down to it, fancy expensive gifts are nice, but gifts from the heart can be more meaningful. Today we’re sharing simple variations on an items easily found at our Thrift Town stores that are completely customizable: FRAMES.
1. Start on Pinterest, and search through the pins & board themes having to do with quotes. Find one you particularly like for the person you’re making it for and save it. You can usually find quotes done in fun fonts and colors. Then peruse the Thrift Town aisles for the perfect frame (or frames). Once you’ve found the one you want, you’re ready to print & frame. Most printing places will be around $2 - $3 for a large print. Not bad!
2. If you find a frame but it isn’t the right color, here’s what you do:
- Paint, dry, insert quote & gift!
3. Here’s a creative approach to a frame: make a grid in an empty frame using twine, and hang whatever you’d like on tiny clothespins inside each space. Ideas for content: a. things I love about you. b. ticket stubs of places you’ve gone together. c. printed pictures of you & that person.
4. A simple idea for a wonderfully giftable set: pick a color scheme and search through the linens section at Thrift Town. Pick coordinating patterns to frame in different sized frames. Feel free to get different colors & textures of frames & simply paint them all to match.
5. Similar to #4: burlap or other fabrics can still have quotes or pictures on top! Frame the fabric, and depending on the texture, you can paint, sew or even embroider a quote. Painting on the glass over a cute pattern works too!
6. Here’s another take on the twine & clothespin idea: hang a paper, or in this case, a folded tea napkin, and personally handwrite something meaningful in an open frame.
7. Did a friend get married this past year? Did they have a baby? Mark a big milestone with important dates or monograms in a frame.
8. Instead of painting a frame, run over to our books section and gram one to mod-podge onto a frame for a different look.
9. While we’re using old books: use a thick marker or pen to write a simple quote on an old book page and add it to a frame. A page from a meaningful book to the recipient? Even better.
10. If you’re handy at drawing, pick any of the above ideas and draw it out instead of printing it off of Pinterest. That personal touch means just that much more.
Regardless of whether you draw the whole project, print it, or hang it from cute little pins, make sure you sign and date it so your loved one will remember this year, and how thoughtful you were.
