NOVEL IDEAS.
Have you been bitten by the DIY bug? Well, we certainly have, and this week we’re looking for new ways to use old books. There are so many different projects you can make… we had thought of a few, and then started searching around for more inspiration, and wow!
If you haven’t visited our boards on Pinterest, you should! We made a whole board for
our book inspirations, and wanted to share a few of our favorites with you.
Most of these projects would be fun to get your kids involved in too
- make an afternoon of making something new!
(For more hands-on step by step instructions on any of the projects you see here,
visit our book board and each image is linked to the original site. )

A LITTLE BIT OF LIGHT READING
Interest grabbing one-of-a-kind light fixtures will brighten up any room.
This “book lamp” takes bedside reading to a whole new level.

FANCY PLANTERS.
There are a bunch of takes on books as planters.
A tip for tackling any of them: make sure you have water-tight containers that fit snug into whatever space you cut from your book, or stack of books. That way it’s not a one-time project, but a focal piece you can switch out and use again and again.

THE GIFT OF WORDS.
These are many ways to personalize a gift using secondhand book pages. Almost any paper-craft project can have book pages substituted out for the otherwise color-coordinated paper, so bows, tags, flowers, ornaments, you name it!

TIME FOR A GOOD BOOK.
One of my absolute favorite ideas that can be done for children or adults.
Whether you’re going with the theme of a room, or simply choosing a meaningful book,
turning it into a timepiece just incredibly personalizes the book,
and makes it a functional fixture for years to come.

READING LIST TO GO.
Books as accessories? This can be done in a number of ways - featured here, the hardbound cover is filled with a cloth insert and handles are added. Another take on it - hollow out the center of a book, leaving all pages showing on the outside, and have one cover open to fill your smartie-pants purse with all your stuff. Form meets function, the perfect gift for a book loving lady.

YOUR CIRCLING THOUGHTS.
A focal piece for any front door, this wordy wreath works in all seasons.
Change out the hanging ribbon color or embellish for specific holidays.
