Make Your Own Green Shopping Bags

These  project ideas are from customers:

I thought you might be interested in this....I'm an avid "bring your own bag" to the grocery store person. I have canvas totes for my groceries, plus netting bags for my produce. Then I started buying more and more foods out of the bulk bins in my store to reduce the amount of packaging material I bring home. But of course I didn't want to put the bulk goods into plastic bags. So I bought a couple muslin drawstring bags online...but at nearly $5 each, that was pretty costly. I decided I could make them myself.

I went to Thrift Town and got a pillowcase for $0.39 (it was sale day!). Also some shoelaces for $0.19 per pair. After washing the pillowcase, I cut it into quarters, sewed up the sides, and sewed in a simple drawstring (the shoelace). All told, I got 4 bags for about $0.80 and an hour of my time!

It seems like every store sells labeled tote bags, but I made a truly unique one from things I got at Thrift Town.  I found a potato sack at the North Richland Hills, Texas store for 69 cents last month. It had some holes in the top, but I loved the cool "queen of hearts" logo.  I used a little red canvas from my sewing stash and some red bias tape from Thrift Town and made a shopping-bag sized tote which is extra sturdy.  I even managed to keep the "queen" brand label and use it on the handle

I love thrift town and the Get Used web site!
