Take this cool mid-1900’s wall/desktop shelf. A shelf like this runs about $29.99 - $49.99 at Thrift Town, depending on the condition and vintage.
All I did to this shelf was: lightly sand, prime and paint (3 coats due to the very dark color of the paint). Once dry, I set it on the hallway floor instead of hanging it. It’s narrow shape worked perfectly in this narrow hallway.
This shelf works great in the entry, especially in a home with kids. Their little shoes fit perfectly in the corners and you can’t beat the cubbies for organization! It also makes a great place to set keys, cell phones, lunch boxes, etc. right when you walk through the door. The basket keeps loose items such a dog leashes attractively hidden.
