Young Fashion in the City.
Meet Elanor. She lives in San Francisco and at 17 is showing the world wide web what she thinks about fashion.
Elanor writes a blog called Missing Lovebirds, and it’s simply her take on life and style in the city. Something she has in common with all my favorite fashionistas is her love for thrift, and she regularly integrates awesome secondhand pieces into her web-friendly looks. This look comes together nicely with her black paisley skirt from Thrift Town in SF. Fabulous!
A recent post of Elanor’s shows just how with-it she is, as she’s dead-on with one of the fashion world’s current obsessions: CAPES.
It’s an unlikely and oft overlooked accessory, but all of a sudden, the fashion forward are reaching for their capes! Since they aren’t a new invention, those of us who shop thrift can rejoice, as there are almost always capes to be found at Thrift Town. I went on a cape hunt the other day at Thrift Town and walked out with an awesome black sweater cape for $5.99!
Celebrities and runways alike are overrun with the long legged in capes these days. The best way to wear the IT accessory is to leave the volume to the cape, ,and keep it simple & sleek on the bottom half. Pairing a great pair of shorts and tights with flats, boots or heels is a fancy and fun way to rock this look.
If you’re in the market for a cape, and wanted to make one yourself, I found the above cutie-pie knitted cape pattern HERE. If you’re more of a sewer than knitter, I found this McCall’s cape pattern that will get you headed in the right direction.

Hi Kari,
I can’t wait to knit the cape in the photo. I’ll have to finish my two current projects first. I’ll probalby have the cape in time for summer, but with the beach fog, it may come in handy. Thanks for the great post. -Ash
I have not EVER worn a cape?! But Elanor’s inspiration has got me thinking about it! Since this year I’m buying EVERYTHING I need @ a Goodwill store (my challenge is @ livingthegoodwilllife.wordpress.com) I think I’ll try to find some capes!
Thanks for the THRIFT-SPIRATION Elanor & Thrift Town!
Very nice cape ideas!
