Cute and easy! I’ll hold my tongue on that phrasing, but I can’t really think of two better words to describe this DIY project. This is some of the easiest crafting I’ve ever done; cute and easy no-sew jean pocket placemats.

I found the above inspiration picture on Pinterest while looking for ideas in preparation for an upcoming picnic theme on my Good Day Sacramento Thrifty Thursday segments. Thrift stores are full of jeans and cloth placemats. The jeans don’t need to be in good condition other than having two good pockets, so you can pick up a pair for dirt cheap shopping Thrift Town’s 50% off color tag sales. I got mine for a buck, and a four piece collection of place mats also for a buck. While you’re there grab some fab vintage cloth napkins, and silverware to complete the look.

Check out how mine turned out by watching my live clip on Good Day Sacramento’s Thrifty Thursday:

Here’s a step by step tutorial:

Supplies needed: jean pockets, placemats, fabric glue or permanent adhesive tape, scissors.

1. Grab a pair of scissors and jeans.

2. Cut out the pockets of the jeans, following just outside of the seam in order to make sure the edges are in tact so your napkin and silverware won’t fall out. Also, make sure you include the entire pocket when you cut, including the inside part of the jeans. This makes it easier to glue into place.

3. Grab a placemat and your favorite fabric glue/tape and apply a liberal amount of glue to the section of the placemat you wish for your pocket to go on.

Um, that’s it. Wait for it to dry and pop in a cute napkin and silverware. Enjoy your place setting!
