Are you in full-swing SUMMER mode yet?

Oh my goodness, it’s everything I can do to focus on work when there are rivers to be rafted, baseball to be watched, sun to soak in, and pools to swim in. The nice thing about all of those things is when you DO get to do them, you get to wear fun summer clothes. One of the biggest differences between what you wear to the office and what you wear to soak in some sun - SHORTS!

However you feel about your legs, at a certain point, the weather all but mandates that you don your own pair of non-pants and throw caution to the wind.

FOR DAISY OR THE DUKE?

A trend in men’s style for summer seems to be: short(er than normal guy-length) shorts for guys.

This is, we admit, a bit daring, and not for the faint of thigh.
But kudos to the guys who have the physique and the independence to pull off the look. Since this isn’t a new concept in men’s wear, it’s most likely not too difficult to find these while thrifting. And guys, we won’t tell if you shop in the ladies section for these - colorful, tailored & a little shorter than normal - the girls have what you’re looking for.

THAT’S IT. YOU’RE CUT OFF.

Another reemerging trend is the cut-off jean shorts, for guys AND girls.

Here’s a couple ways to wear this on the girl end of things. (via People Magazine)
(L) You can try it a little dressier with a cute top & boots, or totally casual with tennies and a t-shirt.

As for the gentlemen - I was AMAZED last week when at a big fun summer party at a gallery/cafe that no joke, over 80% of the guys in attendance were wearing cut-off jean shorts! It was so prevalent that it was actually pretty comical. I felt like saying, “OK, OK, I get it! Cut-off’s are cool for guys this summer!” So, I hope you didn’t get rid of your jeans from high school.
…oh, you did? What? You’re not the size you were in high school anymore? Guess what - EVERYONE thought better of their cut-offs at some point, and donated them to grateful thrift stores. And now that they’re trendy again, you can go into Thrift Town and get someone else’s re-cool shorts. Or go to Thrift Town, and buy an affordable pair of jeans that fit you well and cut them off yourself.

IT’S GOOD TO BE HIGH. WAISTED.

Here’s a summer trend just for the girls - flowy tops with jean cut-off’s.

Even trendier - high waisted jean shorts with cropped flowy tops. If you wore the usual low-cut or even regular cut jean shorts, you’d have quite the midriff showing in a cropped top… but that’s the trick. When cropped meets a high waist, tummies need not fear. We’re just upping the point of shirt-waistband contact, with a very 2011 meets 1980′s look to show for it.

You can go as mod or retro as you want with it, but the great part of however you choose to rock it, is you can find those pieces at Thrift Town for around $3-5, versus the boutique or department store prices. And yes, you’re even getting a deal over consignment stores. Trend-savvy consignment places are shopping at Thrift Stores for these same pieces and just marking them way up since they’re informing you of what’s trendy & doing the shopping for you. Good thing Thrift Town Stores are so clean, bright & organized - the shopping part is easy!

So be a smart, savvy, trendy shopper, without paying what the fancy shops are charging.
