Wearing secondhand is usually not the first thing that comes to mind when you think about high-style and glamour- or turning girls into princesses at the prom.

At Thrift Town we’re constantly looking for new ways to encourage people to shop secondhand and to be excited and proud about it. Our Green is the New Black- Best Dressed at the Prom Contest was designed to celebrate our younger generation of customers who take great pride in being value driven and fashion savvy! (The contest was judged on three criteria: 1. secondhand item actually worn to a prom, 2. creativity/originality, and 3. story/description.) We are thrilled that we accomplished what we set out to do. These three teens rocked the dance floor better and smarter than any other girl at their prom and they all have the great prizes to prove it. Congratulations to them all! Thanks for participating!

1st Prize Winner Apple Computer and $100 Gift Card : Sarah was determined to be best dressed at her prom in Fort Worth Texas and she didn’t want to pay a high price for a dress that she would only wear once. She gets her shopping smarts from her family who has shopped at Thrift Town all her life! Her beautiful Jessica McClintock prom dress was only $8.99, and she tells us that many of her friends spent over $100 for their dresses. “You would not believe how many people told me that my dress was their favorite. Thank you Thrift Town for making my night magical, and for turning me into a princess.”

2nd Prize Winner Digital Camera and $100 Gift Card: Mollie from Albuquerque has a flair for vintage fashion. She is so glad that Thrift Town is acknowledging all the original and creative kids who shop at secondhand stores by having this contest. Molly chose a vintage 80’s Gunne Sax dress and some 1950’s silver glitter heals. “Everyone at prom kept telling me how cool and unique my dress was and they were dying to know where they could buy one! I felt so awesome and stood out like a rock star.”

3rd prize Winner $100 Thrift Town Gift Card: What’s a busy girl like Laurel from Salt Lake City to do when she needs a dress on a budget and fast? This smart girl went to her local Thrift Town store. She found the perfect dress that she describes as “even more than beautiful”. When she tried it on several Thrift Town crew members came over to tell her how nice it was. Laurel says, “I was able to find the perfect dress and the perfect shoes all for the perfect price. And I was able to save 50% Off because of the weekly color tag sale. Several people commented on how nice my dress was and no one would ever have guessed, but my pocket book knew that I had bought it at Thrift Town.”
