THRIFT TOWN ADHERES TO CONSUMER PRODUCT SAFETY GUIDELINES
SUPPORT FOR NEW BILL H.R. 1027 - “Thrift Store Protection Act”

On February 12, 2009, Rep. Bill Posey (R-FL) introduced H.R. 1027 (Thrift Store Protection Act). The bill, co-sponsored by Rep. Bobby Bright (D-AL), was introduced in order to exempt second-hand sellers of certain products from the lead content and certification requirements of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008. Thrift Town supports the H.R. 1027 bill, and we ask for support from our customers and community. Please contact your Congressional representatives and ask them to co-sponsor or support H.R. 1027. Thrift Town remains committed to ensuring the safety of our customers, and we support the intent of the new CPSIA law with regard to children’s safety.  Unfortunately, due to the confusion that still exists with this law, we must be vigilant about the products we sell to ensure they meet the new standards.

Thrift Town will continue to ensure the safety of our customers by not selling items that are recalled or determined to be dangerous as published by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.  We have always complied with the recall lists from the CPSC with our policies, procedures and systems for delivering merchandise to the community.

As always, recalled products as published by the CPSC will not be sold at Thrift Town.  The new CPSIA law will have us focusing more effort on recalled children’s products and related items that can pose a health or safety risk to children under the age of 12.  Items of special focus are the following:

    Painted wooden or metal toys
    Dolls and stuffed toys
    Children’s jewelry
    Vinyl products for children
    Some clothing items

Thrift Town will continue to perform daily stock control and will remove items that it deems in its best judgment should not be available for sale.  Our judgment is based on the guidelines provide by the CPSC.
