Where “Fancy Town” Meets Thrift Town.
Have you ever been in a fancy store full of expensive things, and seen something that looked just like something you’ve seen at Thrift Town? That’s exactly what happened to me a few weeks ago. I had just come from Thrift Town, and my friend wanted me to see this fancy retro store. It was brimming with gorgeous, pristine antiques, each one expertly displayed. A few items in particular had such an uncanny resemblance to items we’d just seen and admired at Thrift Town that I just had to take pictures for comparison’s sake. First off:
Birds of a Feather:
{ Here’s our fancy birds : each priced well over $200 }
. . . . .
{ Our lovely TT bird: much more affordable at $2.99 }
I couldn’t believe the incredible difference in price! For this very reason, I love looking in expensive stores, and online store sites. It’s inspiring to not only see pieces that I could often find secondhand or similar, but to me, presentation is huge. Seeing how a display is put together sometimes makes all the difference on the impact of a particular piece when being displayed in your home. The next set of pieces is a bit more functional, versus decorative.
Leafy Wood:
Our second find - same expensive store: a wooden serving bowl so similar to the Thrift Town ones, it was uncanny. This find validates my thrift shopping habit as very few things ever have. If you have an eye for it, or are on the look-out for what you want, it really is possible to find great stuff for less.
{ note the price - wow! It’s vintage & beautiful, but I’d rather pay Thrift Town prices. }
{our great TT bowl set: only $1.99 and $2.99! }
The expensive bowl is a bit darker/ a different wood, but that’s practically the only difference! I’ll bet that if you were really set on having the darker color, you could even stain it.
All of my personal home decor is secondhand & vintage. So much of it comes from having the eye, and inspiration to see something on a shelf at Thrift Town, and see the possibilities. Hopefully this blog helps you toward your own high-end, low cost Thrift Town purchases.
