With Halloween quickly approaching, and limitless possibilities at Thrift Town,
here’s a few great entries from some of our creative Thrift Town customers to inspire you!
Lil W. : as Dr. Girlfriend from adult-swim’s Venture Brothers .
The dress was formerly a very long night gown. With some snipping and a few buttons, it turned into the lab coat/dress. I also used some leftover material for the spiffy pillbox hat. The costume also doubled as-or, actually, mistaken for- Jackie O and Michelle Obama.

Phillip J. : My Buddy Doll costume.
The overalls were tricky. I looked everywhere for overalls of any color that fit me but couldn’t find any. What did I come up with? I found some red women’s pants and an apron that was almost the same color and material. I cut the apron in half to make the front and back flaps which I then sewed onto the pants to make one piece. I made a pocket that I attached to the overalls and then put the My Buddy tag on that. The hat, shirt and wig I found at Goodwill. I had to cut the wig into a bowl cut, and I was pretty pleased with the result. The costume took a lot of effort but it was fun and everyone seemed to enjoy it, so I’m happy with how it turned out.

Michelle L. : Raggedy Ann & Cruella DeVille
I was thrilled when I found this little red dress at the thrift store for only a few dollars….to me it just screamed raggedy ann, one of my favorite childhood stuffed dolls. Added my daughter’s summer sun bonnet, a little face make up, and an old mop head dyed red and voila! the most adorable little costume you’ve ever seen. But wait!
A few weeks later, I found this darling white fur coat at thrift town, also for just a couple bucks. Not only would it make a great winter coat, but Cruella Deville was calling it’s name
Lucky for us, there are multiple events at Halloween so we did both! We just added some vinyl dots to my daughters toy dog, a red feather boa, and of course, a little hair coloring for the true effect. If this isn’t worth $50 bucks, I don’t know what is…it’s priceless in my heart

Michael C. : Transformers Bumblebee
I made a special costume for my son who is now 4 years old and this year he was Bumble bee from Transformers.
I used soft mat foam, duct tape, velcro and pajamas and battery powered christmas lights for his head lights and fog lights.

Cheri H. : Cowgirl Pug.
Everything in the costume was purchased from Thrift Town stores. The hat and bandana were taken off of a 99 cent teddy bear. The “cowhide” vest was cut down from a larger doggie coat I paid $1.99 for. The denim skirt was from the toddler section also $1.99. The braids were also $1.99 made from one of those hair pieces used when doing a weave. I just folded it up, braided it and hot glued it to the little cowboy hat!
