How-To: Yarn into Toys!

Jana’s Toy Felt Balls:

I am always inspired by our customers’ creativity.

I would never have thought to create these fun yarn balls, but they are pretty great! Not only did Jana make them, but she made sure to give us the step by step directions so you can have your own little second-hand yarnapalooza. I’ll let her tell you how:

“I used up over a pound of Thrift Town mohair and wool yarn to make these soft balls for the boys. Nothing could be faster and easier.

Make a core with any feltable (not machine-washable) wool.

Then wrap mohair until you can no longer see the core;

Stuff into a pantyhose leg (again from Thrift Town); knot; run through the washing machine a few times; cut off the knots and extract the balls; toss in hot clothes dryer for finishing. I think my dogs might like these, too.

I collected the yarn over some time. Usually in bags with other yarns that run $1.99-$2.99 a bag. My huge bag of pre-owned panty hose ($4.99) is used all the time—for tomato plant ties, crafts of all types. The basket was 89 cents.

My favorite Thrift Town is in North Richland Hills, Texas.”

Congratulations to our What a Find Winner!
