CREATIVE FRAMING

Reworking old / vintage pieces is such a
fun way to mix up your decorating!

I recently moved, and am excited to have a new, inspiring space to rework all of my stuff into, especially decorating the walls: I love seeing new ways to frame treasured pictures. It’s such a great way to tie photos into the theme of a room. Ashley is so creative & inspirational with her thrifty decorating!

Here’s a project of hers & how to make your own. - Kari

You don’t have to use a picture frame to frame an interesting picture. This picture frame was made out of an old window!

The entire project took under an hour and it has been a fun and unexpected way to display my Hawaiian photo collection.

HOW TO:

- I tacked grass mat on the back of the window with quilting tacks. Grass mat can be purchased in the form of window treatments, place mats or beach mats. Quilting tacks were purchased at the fabric store.

-The collection of 8×10 black & white photos were mounted on top of the glass panes with standard photo corners used for scrap books. I wired the picture frame, for hanging, with heavy gauge wire which can be purchased at any hardware store.

Thrift Town has lots of art and picture frames that could be creatively matted with grass mat or other fun fabrics that make great backgrounds for both photos and art.

Happy Creating! Ashley

Break Out the Champagne!

Incomplete to Chic!

Sometimes it only takes a little bit of effort & creativity to spiff up secondhand items and make them even more beautiful.

This champagne bucket once had a very ugly handle. Instead of passing it up, I simply replaced the part that was less than desirable. Now it dawns a reproduction glass cabinet pull that makes this bucket much, much more attractive.

Something simple like a champagne bucket can actually cost quite a pretty penny at a department or home-goods store. Finding specialty items and adding your own creativity is such a great way to bring unique charm to your living space.

Happy Creating! Ashley

Vintage Bedding at Low Prices!

There are plenty of vintage collectors / shop owners out there who sell vintage linens for a pretty penny. Guess where you should check before one of those pretty-penny stores? You guessed it.

This vintage Thrift Town floral chenille bedspread (a great find from a customer) was $4.99!
Who needs to pay $50-$100?

Mixing the old with the new is an easy way to save some money and have an original look that’s all your own. Many vintage looks today are popular once again. Why buy new when you can own the real deal?

The Matelasse coverlet in the terra-cotta room was around $3.00.

The chenille coverlet with pompom fringe in the blue room was $15.99. (Yes, it’s the same room; the room was painted and furniture was stained!)

This “Crazy Quilt” was $5.99 and purchased by a customer.

Look through our fabric sections for quilting, sewing, knitting & crochet supplies. You’ll be surprised what you find for all your creative craftiness. If you don’t find exactly what you’re looking for, we put out 4,000 new items every day - so come back! — Ashley

Creative DIY Patio Furniture

A Truly Sporty Seat:

When I think about skis, I don’t naturally think of patio furniture. If there are skis on my patio, it’s because they need to be put away. But leave it to the ingenuity of a Thrift Town Crew Member to come up with this awesome seat…

The Crew Member and son made an Adirondack Ski Chair Masterpiece
from a collection of Thrift Town skis. It’s comfortable too! I’m so inspired.

I just saw a similar chair made out of vintage skateboards it was “totally rad”. I found this
chair online for $599! As you can see, you’d save a bunch making your own.

Headboard Creativity.

Eye-Catching Headboard.

Sometimes, it’s just impossible to find that perfect piece for your bedroom in a department store.

Everyone is different, and expresses themselves differently in their space. And nothing is more personal than how one decorates their own bedroom. So when one of our customers wanted to express herself in her room, the only way to make it just right was to make it. From scratch…and Thrift Town. Sherry: you are a creative go-getter. I dig your style.

Congratulations Sherry!
Our What a Find Winner.

“Here is the awesome headboard that my parents and I created for my bed. The animal print is a shower curtain ($3), the two black sheer panels are window curtains ($7, combined), we used 2 pillows ($10, combined) for the breasts, and the buttons are washers ($1, combined) which are covered with the shower curtain material that we had left over. The red ribbon ($1) came from the Christmas section and the feather boa ($8) was in the Halloween Section.

I had had this idea for a headboard for years and finally shared it with my parents who helped me realize my dream. My dad cut a piece of plywood in the shape of a bustier and my mom and I designed the headboard with materials that we found at the Thrift Town in Albuquerque. Since my room has an animal print motif, I wanted to stick with that theme. For special holidays, the boa and the ribbon can be easily be switched out to produce different color schemes.

You would not believe the compliments I have received on this project. And no one can believe that my parents and I accomplished it for less than $30!” — Sherry
