UPCYCLED: TODDLER STATEMENT SWEATER
MY TINY UPCYCLE PROJECT
Upcycling is a lot of fun, and can help you get way more use out of your items.
Shopping Thrift Town, and altering your purchase for a different use is a great
pocketbook-friendly way to upcycle. Today’s project was really easy and pretty
adorable when it was done.
Here’s the piece I started with, bought at Thrift Town probably over 10 years ago
- ya know, when almost-sleeveless sweater shrugs weren’t a completely
outdated look for a grown up. I couldn’t have spent more than $2 on it.
In the moving process, I went through all my clothes with the intent of donating
A BUNCH. But what happened was, I realized that so many of the clothes I could
do without would actually make really great unique pieces for my little Olive,
with just a bit of work.
The first step in converting my shrug to her sweater was measuring one of her
tops for width and literally cutting a chunk from the back (and sewing the
remaining 2 sides together) so the new piece matched the width of her shirt.
Newly thrifted strappy black embroidered babydoll top: $0.99
Then I measured the armholes on her shirt, and made the
sweater ones just a tad bigger since it was an over-garment.
It’s awesome that shrug-length on me is a long sweater on her.
I kept the length as-is and LOVE it.
Tiny snuggly boots: $2.49 // Denim leggings: $0.99 // Owl Best Friend: $1.99
Olive is OBSESSED with owls, and was so excited to have this sweet little
one as her buddy. OliviaOwl comes everywhere with us, and in this picture,
Olive was helping her feathered friend smell all the pretty flowers.
I LOVE this outfit, and know that the lightweight sweater
will get a lot of use over little dresses & shorts this summer as well.
