It’s a Wrap!

Scarves are one of my favorite accessories. Not only do scarves add depth to an otherwise plain outfit but there is something very comforting about wrapping that knitted wonder around my neck…….maybe, just maybe, it makes me feel like I’m still in bed!

The trend in fashion has been an “anything goes” attitude and scarves are no exception! I’ve seen a ton of faux fur scarves, past-the-knees scarves, blanket scarves, funnel scarves, the list just keeps growing! There is no end to the mix & match of fabrics and knits, hues & textures.

If you’re on a tight budget or if you enjoy super simple projects, here are a few DIY scarf ideas.

Pashmina-to-Infinity Conversion

This is definitely one of the easiest scarf projects ever! I found several fringed scarfs at Thrift Town ranging in price from $2 - $5. I then sewed the ends of the scarf together and cut off the fringe. If you don’t have a sewing machine and the fabric is lightweight, you could even use iron-on bonding to secure the ends of the scarf together.

Sweater-to-Infinity Conversion

Another simple scarf project is converting a sweater to an infinity scarf. Below are a few simple steps to follow:

Step 1: Find a sweater

Look in your closet and see if you have an old sweater that you no longer plan to wear or buy a thrifted one for just a few dollars. Nearly any color or style will work!

Step 2: Lay the sweater flat and then cut off the sleeves

Step 3: Turn the sleeves inside out, slide one sleeve inside the other sleeve and then sew the unfinished arm hole edges together.

Step 4: Turn the sleeves back to right side and then either overlap the finished “wrist” edges and sew or hand sew the finished “wrist” edges together.

Step 5: Rock your new infinity scarf! Below are two of my new scarfs.

Don’t get too wrapped up in the holiday busyness. Take some time to try out a scarf project and share your ideas on instagram and twitter.
