HOLIDAY BAKING ON A BUDGET

HOORAY FOR HOLIDAYS!

Some people go hog wild for the holidays spending lot of money on elaborate gifts and decor. For me, it’s about small and sweet traditions shared with those you love. Forget consumerism, equip me to have a meaningful time with my family, I’m a happy girl.

With my Olive being almost 18mos, it’s not her first Christmas, but it kinda feels like it - last year she was a squeaky lil ball of baby. So this year, I’m fighting the push to make EVERYTHING PERFECT for her first(ish) memories, and going back to the things that were special for me.

Baking cookies as a family was always a mark of the season, so we decided to make cookies with our little one. But we needed a few things… like cookie cutters and a rolling pin.

I was going by Thrift Town to look for a coat for Olive and had already decided to go buy the cookie items elsewhere at full price but I checked in the homegoods section and:

$0.69 for 3 Trader Joe’s cookie cutters? Yes, please!

$1.99 for the rolling pin

(finally using my cute measuring cups & spoons my mom
got me last year hoping I’d start baking. haha I’m on it mom!)

Gotta play with all the tools first. Talk about what each one is called and figure
out what kind of sound it makes when you BANG IT on things. #toddlerrules

DAD. I got it. Don’t stand so close, I got it!

Group effort: Olive in her thrifted jammies, mixing, (tasting)
and dancing with daddy to our awesome Christmas mix.

She only wanted trees. OK. Next time we’ll try stars.
And yes, we completely forgot ingredients for frosting. Dangit.

All’s well that ends well in our happy little holiday home.
And yes, we totally ate the rest of the cookies while she slept.
