CHALK TALK!

Posted on by Camilla      No Comments

Chalkboarding has become quite the rage the past few years! You can find DIY chalkboards in coffee shops, offices, homes, at weddings, on bottles, on platters, signs and even as entire walls! Chalkboard projects are an easy, affordable and FUN way to let your creative juices flow. All it takes is a few supplies and a couple of steps to chalk this one up as a huge success! Here are a few of my projects:

Step 1: Find or buy a picture frame, mirror, platter or old cupboard door. I bought my frames, mirrors and desk from Thrift Town. The frame and mirror prices varied from $0.99 - $3.99 and the desk was $5.99.

Step 2: Buy both black chalkboard paint and either dry chalk or a chalk pen. These can be bought at a local craft store and are pretty inexpensive!

Step 3: Separate the surface to be painted from the frame or use blue painter’s tape to mask off the parts you don’t want to be painted.

Step 4: Use newspapers or a tarp to protect surrounding areas while you paint. Spray black chalk paint onto the surface and then let the paint dry! Once the first coat is dry, spray on a second coat and let that dry too!

Step 5: Remove the painter’s tape and then re-insert the glass/mirror back into the frame.

Step 6: Design and decorate the painted surface with white chalkboard paint!

And for the desk…
