CELTIC KNOT TUTORIAL: the 5 min head wrap
IF YOU HAVE 5 MIN + AN OLD T SHIRT, DRESS OR TIGHTS,
YOU CAN MAKE THIS CUTE HEAD WRAP (no special skills required)
One of the BEST things about thrifting is giving pieces new life. Someone donated
something they no longer used or needed, and you get the chance to love and use it.
What’s even more fun is continuing the cycle…
I bought this dress at Thrift Town maybe 5-6 years ago, as a casual summer dress, and something comfy to wear around the house. I’ve definitely had my fair share of use from this already thrifted piece. However, there is more life to be had.
As we are heading into cooler weather, I’ve been looking online for hair tutorials,
and ideas to make the above-the-shoulders region a bit less blah. I found so many
fun ways to do head scarfs, head wraps, you name it, and this was one that I could
do in under 5 min!
- cut 2 long strips. as you see, you can totally do this with any fabric, just make sure the strips are long enough, and that there’s a little bit of stretch in the material.
2. follow the above steps on configuring the Celtic knot.
3. pull all 4 ends tight and situate the knot in the center.
4. place the knot where you’d like to wear it on your head, and wrap the
ends around your head, gathering them together at your preferred
tightness, and safety pin all 4 pieces.
5. remove from your head, replace safety pin with straight pins
and sew a straight seam across all pieces.
6. trim ends and ROCK IT.
I’m still waiting for the perfect look to wear this with (oh and it’s supposed to get up
to 106 degrees out this week — yay fall time?) so I haven’t worn it out with friends
yet. Next week’s microfashion post will have the tiny person version of this head
wrap, made from thrifted tights (!!) and modeled by my little Olive.
Til next week — Happy Thrifting, everyone! XO Kari
