HOW TO WEAR A VINTAGE SCARF

HERS & HERS: a polkadot party

How to put together a great outfit — start with a piece you LOVE
and build the rest around it, balancing color, texture and pattern.

This week, Miss Olive’s must-wear piece was our “new” thrifted vintage silk scarf.
I say Our because it’s a piece she and I can both wear, which makes the $1.99
I spent doubly worth it.

The scarf color is one of my all-time favorites - the vintage orangey-red. To balance out the
red & large polka dots, I did a cool colored neutral top with a tiny pattern ($2.99).
To tie in the red, I threw on a coordinated diaper cover ($0.49) that peeked through
every once in awhile.

She was saying, “oh HIII!!” with the dramatic extended-arm wave.
Seriously. Like a big southern auntie you haven’t seen in years.

So, roll your eyes if you want, but when I’m getting the 2 of us dressed, the fact
that she will often be being held and carried by me (and her clothes and mine
up against each other) is completely a factor in what I choose. It’s not “Matchy”
per se, it’s coordinated / non-clashing. haha

I generally keep our clothes in the same color family, and this set is no exception.

This denim button-up isn’t your usual skirt outfit piece but that’s kinda why I love it.
Instead of wearing it full length, untucked, unbuttoned and sleeves down, I play with every
convertible aspect of it to change it into a girly topper for this sheer feminine maxi skirt.

Denim top: $4.99
Sheer skirt: $2.99
Red flats: $2.99

It’s all about balance. Buttoned up top means top knot. Thrifted sunglasses: $1.99

A little later in the day, it was time to go to a 2yr old bday party who’s theme was
Wonderland Tea Party. So we took her same outfit, and put a silky tutu
(Thrift Town: $1.99) over it, and added red shoes (gifted) to tie in the scarf color.

My girl & her bday bestie. It’s all just icing on the cake to have a cute outfit,
when you see your little one being sweet and loving to her friends. Momma WIN.
Til next week — Happy Thrifting, everyone!

XO Kari (& Olive)
