Anything But Basic
Last month, Thrift Town had ANOTHER one of their 50% off all clothing sales and of course I was there (along with my friend/thrifting buddy, Doris.) We had been thrifting all day, with a stop to celebrate our friend’s birthday, and didn’t get to Thrift Town until two hours before they closed. I know, right! That’s not much time when it comes to finding that ‘treasure’. No worries though, I managed to score three cute tops that make your basic bottoms anything BUT basic…hence the title of this post! 😉
First up…a spring trend: The striped shirt.
It’s hard to tell, but this Crystal Candy tunic ($2.00) is brown and white striped.
Here is a close up shot of the sleeve (that can be rolled up and buttoned).
I paired this tunic top with a basic pair of white leggings. White skinny jeans would work too.
I added the brown wooden bangle ($2.99) from my birthday thrift-a-palooza back in November, along with a pair of brown sandals. I’m a fan of combining brown and white. Are you?
Next up is ANOTHER Spring trend…florals!
Seriously, how cute is this a.n.a. ( a new approach) sheer floral AND striped blouse?! The best part? It only cost me $4.00!
The basic bottom I paired with this top was a pair of dark skinny jeans. Almost everyone seems to own a pair of skinny jeans, right? Nude flats were my shoes of choice for this look.
Here are a couple of close ups of the shirt.
Necklace and bracelet are from Thrift Town too.
I put a nude camisole underneath it…because I’m modest like that. 🙂
The third top is my FAVORITE of the three. Why, you ask? Because it’s from my favorite pre-thrifting days store…White House Black Market!
Is this not the cutest?! This tunic top only cost $5.00!!! Of course, the basic bottom I paired with this top was a pair of black leggings.
The back of this tunic top is just as cute.
My son/photographer for the day, fixed my bow to make it picture worthy.
Here is a close up of the pattern to help you appreciate the beauty of this top.
Did you happen to notice that I only spent $11.00…well, $11.77 with tax…for all three tops?! Did you also notice how cute these tops made the basic bottoms look? Yeah…
You too can look this cute when you shop at Thrift Town…and if you are age 60+ and it’s a Monday…you get 30% off all clothing! Yay, you!!!
Darlene Fadem is a wife and mother with two boys in college. She’s OBVIOUSLY over 50, hence the name Thrifty Over 50. She admits to being a label hunter when thrifting, but pleads the fifth to everything else. 😉 You can also find her styling looks on her fashion blog for older women whosaprettygirl

You are such a treasure finder!! I think my fave is the floral top…although I”m thinking you should send me the black & white tunic since I don’t have one….ha ha!!!jodie

ps…you are not obviously over 50….in fact I think I should see your ID to check the facts!!!
I really like the floral top too! Act surprised when you see it again. 😉 By the way…I have been carded once or twice when I’ve asked for a Senior discount. You need to take the 8 hour drive down to see me and we need to do some major thrifting together and you can borrow some of my clothes while you’re here too.
wow, 3 tops for under $12!! That’s impressive!! They are all super cute!!
Thanks! I was pretty pleased with myself. 🙂
