Valentine’s Day…on a Budget

Once again, I headed to my local Albuquerque, NM Thrift Town to help me set the mood for a romantic evening at home this Valentine’s Day.

The first stop inside Thrift Town was the sleepwear section, of course! They had quite a variety to choose from. Here is just a small sampling:

These Soma pj’s have my name written all over them! Well, actually they have hearts all over them. You are not going to believe the price either…only $2.99!! Yeah…unbelievable.

These heart covered Nick and Nora pajamas were only $4.99.

Now, if heart covered sleepwear is not your thing but you still want a Valentine vibe ( you, know…something that’s red or pink ) check this out:

Are these not the cutest skull pj’s ever?! They were only $7.99.

Now, normally I am not into the whole lingerie thing but it’s Valentine’s Day so I decided to go all out for my husband BUT I didn’t want to spend a lot of money. Let’s face it, after Valentine’s Day is over this lingerie is going in the drawer…never to see the light of day again.

So, what did I buy this year?

Ambrielle nighty $2.99 Frederick’s of Hollywood Maribou mules $3.99

I chose this one because it had a built in underwire bra. Let’s face it…at my age, the girls need all the help they can get. The maribou mules? I can’t even believe I found them. It gives the whole look a retro vibe that I’m really into right now.

To complete our romantic evening at home, I hit up the housewares department too.

SAM_3300Wineglasses 99 cents each Glass pitcher $7.99 Lead crystal divided dish $4.99

Before we go any further, can we please talk about how little I spent for this special night? You all know that I rarely pay full price…even at a thrift store. Because I am a Thrift Town VIP I am always getting coupons emailed to me. This time, the coupon was for $10.00 off when you spend $20.00. With tax, the total cost of EVERYTHING I purchased at Thrift Town was $12.78! Can you believe it? Even I was surprised at how little I spent.

Okay, let’s get this night started…

Nothing says ‘romantic evening on a budget’ quite like boxed wine. 😉 I’m not a wine connoisseur but mixed with frozen fruit and some Peach Schnapps this stuff is pretty tasty! My sister turned me on to this drink while I was back in Ohio.

While I was back in the bedroom getting ready (applying a faux tan because I didn’t want to blind anyone with my white legs, and putting on a red lip…to match my outfit ) my wonderful husband was in the kitchen getting the food ready.

Didn’t he do a great job?

Okay, I think my faux tan is dry…

I could not even stand in those shoes, let alone walk in them. They are definitely just for sitting.

Speaking of sitting…Miss Oreo was sitting right in the middle of our romantic evening.

It’s a good thing that I love her!

No worries…she finally went and laid down… and so did I. 😉

Happy Valentine’s Day!

On a side note:

Don’t forget the 30% off senior discount on clothing that Thrift Town offers those age 60+ every Monday!

Really nice post, Darlene. I love the fruit-filled beverage photos, and you look adorable in your dining attire 🙂

  2. Fifty and STILL a hotty! My honey and I are keeping to a $10 Valentine’s Day budget. I’ll try to follow your lead here. Well done!

    • Awww…you are too kind! A $10.00 budget for Valentine’s Day is totally doable at the thrift store but you already know that. Have fun thrifting!
