Ponchos, Tunics and Faux Fur Vests…Oh My!
Everyone knows how important it is to have a list or an idea of what you are looking for when you thrift, right? If you don’t, nine times out of ten you will get overwhelmed and walk out the door with nothing. That’s no fun!
I always have a thrift ‘wish’ list when I head to my local Thrift Town here in Albuquerque, New Mexico. On my ‘wish’ list were ponchos, tunics and a faux fur vest…and on this particular visit I found them all!!! I couldn’t believe it either!
First, a couple of photos showing everything I scored:
L-R: BCBGMAXAZRIA brown tunic $12.99, Steve Madden tan cowl neck poncho $3.99, American Eagle Outfitters gray poncho $12.99
Chico’s mandarin collar black tunic/coat $7.99, Kate Spade brown handbag $5.99 and a BRAND NEW! with a $69.00 Macy’s price tag on it, Grace Elements faux fur vest $12.99. The vest was the first thing I put in my basket that day. I was almost giddy with excitement…just sayin’.
Let’s get to the styling, shall we?
Let’s start with the BCBG brown tunic:
Let’s just say there is a WHOLE lot of brown going on in this picture! I just got these brown leggings and was hoping to find a tunic to go with them. I’m also wearing the wooden bangle from my thrifting birthday party at Thrift Town.
Just in case there wasn’t enough brown for you:
I added my Worthington coat $20.00 and my ‘new’ Kate Spade bag $5.99.
Let’s see the Steve Madden poncho next…
See, brown and gray DO go together! I like that this Steve Madden poncho is long enough to cover all my lady parts AND that it was only $3.99!
How about the gray poncho next?
I seriously love EVERYTHING about this look, especially the poncho! It really makes this simple white blouse and skinny jeans combination something special. I love it.
It looks like that Chico’s black tunic/coat is up next.
What do you think? I wish it was a tad smaller. Gosh, I’m so short I could probably wear this as a dress! There’s those Lucky Brand flats, again! ($9.99)
Let’s talk about that scarf for a moment. I found it at Thrift Town back in April and have never worn it, until now. Check out the price tag:
Uh, yeah. Who would pay $260.00 for this scarf? Not me. I paid $10.00 for it.
It’s reversible too.
I like this silver side better…
Last, but certainly not least is that brand new faux fur vest!!
Faux fur vests are EVERYWHERE in fashion. On the runway, in catalogs, boutiques, department stores AND at the Thrift Town located at 3900 Menaul Blvd. here in Albuquerque!!
I do believe that vest is my new favorite thrifted find, ever! Well, until the next one! lol 😉
So, are you ready to head to your local Thrift Town and see what you can cross off on YOUR thrifted ‘wish’ list?
Remember, you can cross it off for 30% less on Monday’s if you are age 60+.
Darlene Fadem is a wife and mother with two boys in college. She’s OBVIOUSLY over 50, hence the name Thrifty Over 50. She admits to being a label hunter when thrifting, but pleads the fifth to everything else. 😉 You can also find her styling looks on her fashion blog for older women whosaprettygirl

I couldn’t believe I found everything on my list either! It was the first (and probably last) time THAT will ever happen. lol
