Mommy Moments; Get Organized! DIY Chalkboard Chore Chart!
When most people are ringing in the new year, I’m busy throwing out all the stuff that has miraculously accumulated over the course of the year, in addition to organizing our blessedly CRAZY life with my three bambinos for the upcoming year. Cheers to that!
I don’t know if you experience this with any of your children, but I seem to have a better shot of my kids (and hubby) actually doing their to-do list if it is literally written down in a location that they must pass by multiple times a day. Even the basics that they are supposed to do every single day before school starts (really, who “forgets” to brush their teeth? Apparently my 8 year old…ewww!).
My favorite chore chart was created using a thrifted frame found at Thrift Town for $9.99. It’s HUGE! I painted chalkboard paint directly onto the glass piece of the frame. I put on two coats, let it dry and hung it up. I am so happy with the result! I hung it by our homework station, which is prime real estate in our house.
Though it currently isn’t being used for chores, it is used as a message board. I found this great frame for $6.99 at Thrift Town, and followed the same steps as above, with the two coats of chalkboard paint applied directly onto the glass front of the frame. I’ve tried this on plastic too, and it adheres great. Another great result.
I prefer to use spray paint, especially if you want to change the color of the frame itself to black, or if it’s already black. In my opinion it’s easier to use, and faster application and dry time. Either way, this project is simple. The hard part is getting the kids to actually do their chores!
Happy thrifting!
