The New Shirt-Dress: DIY baby clothes
THIRD HAND.
Secondhand is grand. Especially when shopping for kids cause, let’s face it - kids clothes are just as expensive as adult clothes! I recently decided to take secondhand one step further when it came to my little one, and make it THIRD-hand.
Here’s how a plaid shirt got another new (tiny) lease on life:
ORIGINAL PURCHASE:
Cute pink baby dress at Thrift Town — $0.99
Women’s plaid shirt at Thrift Town — $1.49
1. place the baby dress on the shirt, making sure to line up the buttons in the center.
2. use chalk to trace the outline of the tiny dress onto the shirt.
3. repeat on other side of shirt.
4. cut out both pieces, leaving an inch around the perimeter for finishing the edges.
5. fold down and pin the extra fabric on the arm holes and neckline, then sew.
6. line up both sides of the shoulder straps and sew together
7. line up, pin and sew the sides of the dress together
TA-DA!
8. make sure to remove all pins and trim all stray threads
9. turn right-side out, and use hair straightener to iron the finished product.
