DIY Plate Gift + Decor //

This DIY project isn’t your typical clothing or shoes transformation, but instead its designing plates!! Like whaaaat? Plates really?….. YES! I found a way to not only make a FABULOUS decoration for a bedroom, dorm, or kitchen but a creative AND thoughtful gift as well!

First of all, thrift town has so many beautiful plates that I’ve always had my eye on and wondered how I could use them. I found about five plates with floral patterns that I thought looked aesthetically pleasing. Some are more modern and others look more vintage but I love both looks! I then found two others that I could just buy to give as gifts that would work great as a jewelry dish or even for a candle base. Next I thought of sayings or quotes that I love and that someone receiving this dish would love. I put my initial on one, and a saying on the three others. They looked so beautiful hung up on the wall and would be such a great handmade, inexpensive gift for the holidays! You can get creative with this and write sayings to give to other people or initials or even drawings! Handmade gifts are really the best :)!

Some of these plates are written on with sharpies (black & gold), and the others with a dry erase marker which then turns the plate into a white board to maybe write to do lists or special notes depending on the size of the plate!

I hung these plates up with double sized foam tape that is especially for hanging things got to the wall. Another option is to find a plate hanger thats designed specifically for the wall like so:

The initial plate: “A”

Saying or Quotes: “Starve your ego, feed your soul”

“You are my sunshine, my only sunshine” (pair of plates at first with black then gold sharpie)

Random drawing with the dry erase marker!

Get creative with this idea! Let us know what you come up with on your plates and tag @thrifttown on instagram and twitter! Please share and pass the word along :)!

Love this idea. I am the Granny with too many plates and did not want old plates on the walls until I saw your fresh new ideas.
