Mommy Moments; Wine Cork Coasters!

Posted on by Gina      No Comments

I recently did a post on DIY Scrabble Coasters. They were so fun and easy that I decided to take it to the next level and see if I could replicate another favorite Pinterest pin of mine; Framed Wine Cork Coasters. These…not as easy, but very cute.

Supplies needed: wine corks, mini frames, razor, strong glue (I used fabri-tac), clear spray (optional), chalkboard paint.

Frames were around $1-$2 ea. at Thrift Town

I decided to paint all my frames with chalkboard paint because it adheres to just about anything nicely. Most of the frames I purchased were brass, and I didn’t want to take the time to prime them.

You will need A LOT of corks for this project. Luckily I had plenty on hand…though if you don’t have your own stash, ask your neighbors if they’d like to contribute to your project or head to your nearest craft store. I personally like the way used wine corks look with the added name and color.

Once your frames are dry, start arranging the corks within the frame. I left the backs of the frames on and glued the corks directly onto the backing. I used Fabri-Tac glue as it’s a very strong glue and it’s what I had on hand! You could easily do this using a glue gun, or gorilla glue, modge podge, etc.

Start putting the pieces of the puzzle together. Use a sharp razor when needed to trim the cork to fit within the frame borders.

Once you’re done you could apply a clear coat of spray paint, or apply a thin layer of modge podge in order to protect the corks from moisture.

If coasters aren’t your thing, you could do this on a larger scale using a big frame and create a cork board to hang on the wall or by your desk. These make great gifts for teachers, neighbors, house warming, hostess gifts, the list goes on. Very inexpensive and fairly easy to make once the cork cutting is done.
