SWEATERING TO THE OLDIES: vintage sweater gold

HISTORY LESSONS

When something is handmade, and made well, it is much more meaningful to me than something made in a factory. When it’s handmade, well made, vintage, and made by someone special just for me - priceless.
As strange as it is to embrace, clothes from my early years qualify as vintage now. And this tiny sweater was handmade by my great grandmother in anticipation of my arrival. I applaud my mother’s foresight in preserving it for me. Now with a daughter of my own, it is beyond special to have it for her.

In the same vein, my grandmother continues the knitting/crocheting tradition that her mother passed down to her, and she made my little Olive this gorgeous grey blanket. Since I lack the skills to personally populate my child’s wardrobe with more beautiful handmade pieces, I started the hunt for them at Thrift Town.

This tiny vintage sweater was tucked away in the racks of the Carmichael
Thrift Town near my house. Soft and sweet for $1.99, it was a steal!

I make a point to not exclusively dress my daughter in
pink, and we don’t do princesses and glitter. I want a classic
girl, in vintage and timeless clothes. This blue sweater: perfect.

This sweet piece wasn’t originally handmade but it seems to be much older
than the others. All the drawstrings and flower details make it especially adorable.

I love the color of this one! And it’s so so soft. As much as I want my little one to stay as tiny as possible for as long as possible, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t dying for her to be big enough to wear all of these. It will be here soon enough, and then I’m sure I’ll miss her being so small. But one thing is for sure - I’m holding on to all of these, and she will have them to pass on to her little one someday.

Keep your eyes peeled at Thrift Town for vintage
baby & toddler sweaters for me - I’m a little obsessed…
