USE THIS SIMPLE TRICK FOR PERFECT LOOKING CLOTHES.
ALL IN THE DETAILS.
Ironing: it’s one of those polarizing chores - you either abhor it and avoid it at all costs, or you’re the type-A type that relishes the opportunity to perfect your wardrobe’s appearance one steamy neurotic stroke at a time (no judgement). For those of us who don’t enjoy it, ok I’ll just speak for myself: it’s laborious to do it well, so I usually fake it and do the old “throw it in the dryer with a damp towel” trick.
But there are certain items of clothing that have details on them that you can’t really fake it, and then there’s the items (like the tiny person dress pictured below) that’s pretty much impossible to even iron well no matter how hard you try.
So, how did I get it to look brand new?
What’s the secret??
YOUR HAIR STRAIGHTENER.
It’s an iron right? And most even have temperature settings
that you can customize so as to not damage sensitive fabric.
I was lucky enough to find this straightener a few years ago at
Thrift Town for $4.99 and it’s actually a pretty high-end brand.
SCORE/
Works wonders on my hair, and also on ruffles, pleats, delicate layers, cuffs,
and those pesky areas between buttons that get all crumpled.
With a ton of secondhand (thrifted and hand-me-down) baby clothes for my coming little one, most of them don’t enter my home perfectly pressed & ready to wear. And I have to wash everything anyway, new and used before baby can wear it.
Maybe just this once**, the girl who usually fakes it on the ironing front, actually enjoyed a
few hours of sitting on the couch with a straightener and a pile of super cute baby clothes,
making them picture perfect to hang up for my daughter.
** Don’t expect to see perpetually pristine clothes on my kid after this first round has been
worn once. Sure it works, but I definitely won’t have hours of leisure like this… ever. Again.
