Summer ‘Tween Fashions Are Made At Thrift Town!

Don’t you just hate someone who couldn’t take a bad picture if their life depended on it? Yeah, me too and even more annoying is that she’s 12-years-old, plays the trumpet, volunteers with a local pet rescue outfit, is as smart as they come AND looks fabulous in everything she puts on! But come to think of it, I know her mom and that pretty much explains it. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree at all in this family!

Peyton and her mom, Stacey, agreed to help me become acquainted with the “tween” section of the Austin Thrift Town recently and I don’t know which one of us had more fun. Such cute styles and even though Peyton isn’t quite at the school dance phase yet, her mom stated emphatically that when that day comes, they’re shopping at Thrift Town! Check out these pretty and age-appropriate dress-up dresses – each less than $20.

A denim dress and a denim skirt with a cute top made for a couple of great outfits and Peyton knew her accessories. Loved the pink purse for just $4.99.

My favorite was this striped dress but Peyton’s also a sporty gal and we had fun pretending like she needed directions on the bike ride. Even the helmet, the ultimate sports accessory, could be had at Thrift Town.

For casual-with-attitude Peyton paired a plain black skirt with a sparkly top, a casual black clutch and for fun, some faux fur sunglasses. Those sunglasses reappeared with a black and white summer sweater, straight legged jeans and, for a pop of color, lime green sandals.

But at this age, moms and dads are still picking up the fashion tab – a lot easier at Thrift Town prices. Most of the tops were $3.99 - $4.99, pants and skirts, $4.99 - $5.99 and most of the shorts and t-shirts even less. The striped dress was $11.99 and all the purses and shoes Peyton liked were under $12.

Have a great and thrifty summer and put all that money you save to something really wonderful…like that vacation you deserve!

Today she lives and works in Texas’ capital city doing her part to “Keep Austin Weird.” She’s the author of an Austin blog – The Thrifty Snicker – which lets her prowl local thrift stores while telling herself that it’s not shopping; it’s research.
