Overalls Part 1

Posted on by Camilla      No Comments

Everywhere I look these days, all I see are overalls! Yet another comeback trend from my childhood. Of course, retailers are selling these overalls in the $40 - $150 price range! Psstt…..do you want to find out how you can get some really cool overalls without dipping into your college fund? My next two blogs will show you two awesome ways to spice up an old boring pair of overalls! This week’s transformation is from tan blah overalls into trendy black overalls!

Items needed:

Pair of Overalls

Colored dye (I used RIT liquid dye)

Salt

Laundry Detergent

Rubber Gloves

Bucket

Step 1: Find an old pair of overalls. I found a tan pair of Calvin Klein overalls from Thrift Town for $4.99.

Step 2: Follow the instructions on the dye that you purchase!! I will explain the steps I took using RIT liquid dye. Fill a bucket with 3 gallons of hot water (approximately 140°)

Step 3: Put on the gloves!

Step 4: Add one cup of salt and one tablespoon of Laundry Detergent to the hot water

Step 5: Add dye to the bucket of hot water

Step 6: Place overalls in the dye bath. Stir the overalls for 30-60 minutes. The longer the garment stays in the dye the richer the color will be.

Step 7: After stirring for 30-60 minutes, drain water from the bucket and rinse overalls till the water runs clear.

Step 8: Throw the newly dyed overalls into the washer and then the dryer (by themselves so the dye doesn’t bleed onto other clothing!)

Step 9: BLING up the overalls! You can do any number of things to them! Like adding studs , bleach splattering, using a razor blade and giving them a distressed look, add lace……you really can do whatever you want!

Step 10: Step out with your super cute brand new pair of overalls!
