Mommy Moments; The Power of Spray Paint
I’ve seen the below image on Pinterest quite a few times over the past year. Basically they took random thriftstore items, put a coat or two of spray paint on them, and transformed below average pieces into fun and intriguing home decor focal points. I thought I’d give it a shot.
Here’s my pinspiration shot straight from Pinterest. Not sure if I’d be brave enough to spray paint a vintage camera, but it sure looks great!
Here’s my hunk ‘a junk I grabbed at Thrift Town. I literally devoted ten minutes to go in and grab random items that I believed would look great with just a little paint help. I know, pretty random pile!
Here’s the transformations:
I like this little bird. In fact my aunt bought me one very similar for Easter, and I guarantee it cost a lot more than $1.99. On this one I used the base color, and followed it up with a clear gloss coat. This looks great in the garden.
The frames I found were really ugly originally. With this bright coat of green paint it would look cute in a room where you cluster the frames on a wall for a pop of color decor!
I really liked this piece as well. It went from a 70s inspired orange to a shabby chic blue. I did a light blue spray paint, and rubbed it back with some sandpaper after it dried. This too makes for a fun piece in the garden. Cost $1.99.
All of the above were easily transformed using a quick coat of paint. Any of these objects you see above took less than five minutes to transform (not including dry time). I love the idea of doing this and adding some whimsy to a garden for dirt cheap (pun intended). Here’s the segment as seen on Good Day Sacramento’s Thrifty Thursday:
