Sweet Sixteen Edition: Thrifty Makeover…Angel
Welcome to another Thrift Town thrifty makeover!
Meet Angel:
I work with her mom, Jeanette. Our mission today was to find something for Angel to wear to a family friend’s wedding.
Of course, while we were at it, she tried on and bought a bunch of clothes I had pulled for her that are brands you find at the mall.
Here are a few of the other items she purchased that you can find at your local mall:
What about this brand new shirt from Kohl’s? It’s from one of her favorite television shows…The Big Bang Theory. Notice the original price of $20.00 and the Thrift Town price of $5.99. Sweet!
There was one very special item that she tried on that unfortunately didn’t fit…a pair of Guess Jeans. Here they are:
Here is the other pocket:
and here is the price…
But wait…it gets better! White tags were half off that day AND I had a coupon to save $5.00 when you spend $10…which brings these Guess jeans down to…only $5.00!!!
Well, there was no way I was going to leave these pants for someone else to buy…sorry! So I made a few phone calls and lo and behold I found someone tiny enough to fit in them…my son Michael’s friend, Jennifer!
In the meantime, Angel had started trying on the dressier clothing. One of the dresses she ended up buying still had the tags on it!
I forgot to take a picture when she tried it on. Trust me…she looked gorgeous!
After a couple of hours of trying things on we finally settled on a black jumpsuit from my favorite store, White House Black Market. The cost of it was only $4.99 Unbelievable!
You know, everyone is watching their pennies pretty closely nowadays, so I wanted to show Angel how her new jumpsuit could be styled for school AND the wedding she was attending.
Here are the two ways I styled it:
The first look features an Old Navy jean jacket ($9.99) along with the jumpsuit. The black flats were $3.99.
The jewelry for this look was pricey. The necklace, with a coupon, still cost $10.99! I must admit though, I loved it…and so did Angel. Silver hoop earrings at $5.99 and two charm bracelets totaling $9.99 complete her look for school.
Her look to wear for the wedding was considerably less. Her pearl accessories (necklace and earrings) cost a mere $4.50!
Have you been to your local Thrift Town lately? You know…on Monday’s…seniors (60+) save 30%. For everyone else… well, Thrift Town is always giving coupons to their FB fans and VIP’s.
Darlene Fadem is a wife and mother with two sons in college. She’s OBVIOUSLY over 50, hence the name Thrifty Over 50. She admits to being a label hunter when thrifting, but pleads the fifth to everything else.
When she’s not thrifting she is teaching five year olds how to read, write and be fashionable! You can also find her styling looks on her fashion blog for older women http://whosaprettygirl.com

She looks amazing!! Great work!
Thanks Pam! She was really happy with everything I found for her, and her mom was really happy with the price.
Very Cute so OK Darlene…I am vacationing to Mexico in November and will be needing some fun sundresses and cover ups. Maybe some swim wear..I have a few suits already! Wanna keep an eye out for me and plan a thrift over for later this summer when maybe summer stuff in better stock?? Let me know! Cheri
Yay!! I’m looking forward to it! I’ll talk to you soon.
Wow, great finds! I adore the jumpsuit. It’s a great alternative to a dress (says someone who isn’t a big dress person).
Thanks Holli! If that jumpsuit was one.size.larger…it would have been going home with me!
Awesome!!! I love shopping at resale and vintage stores. I was thrilled to find out my 19 year-old son has started thrifting. He was looking for vintage Hawaiian shirts, and now he’s hooked
My 19 year old son FINALLY said he would let me find him some clothes to wear at the thrift store…YAY!
