Leather and Lace
Leather and lace. Just like Stevie Nicks and Don Henley, we’ve got two classic favorites that look (and sound) great together or on their own. And like all the classics, not to mention the latest fads, there were plenty of both on a recent visit to Thrift Town.
Lace is by no means limited to baby clothes, bridal gowns and the boudoir. A peek of lace from an undergarment or more lace as an embellishment or even the entire article of clothing can be beautiful and appropriate even in the most conservative of settings. Pretty options include the lace strap, lace edging at a neckline, and the lacy camisole or tee underneath a jacket or opaque shirt. You can layer two lace camis in contrasting hues for feminine look without worrying too much about the see-through. None of these pretties were priced higher than $4.99!
With outerwear for anything more formal than play, be certain the item has adequate lining. This dressy white lace top (just $6.99!) has a built-in solid bustier for contrast and modesty. The two casual tops are both lined with matching fabric for pretty but completely appropriate looks.
There were almost a dozen stunning couture wedding gowns on the rack, several dripping with lace and I found two, still-in-the-box wedding guest registries with lace embellishments as well as this brand-new quinceanera guest registry. You know, if word gets out about Thrift Town the ridiculous average cost of a wedding ($25K!!) would probably plummet!
There were plenty of lacy home décor options that didn’t scream “grandma.” The heart-shaped pillow was feminine and dainty but the crocheted pillow in forest green would look fine in any bachelor pad. I loved the “lacy” picture frame for just $2.99!
As for leather, there were jackets for men and women in every size and style, none priced higher than $40. Leather, suede and animal-friendly pleather are popular everywhere but are terrific options here in Texas where a nice leather jacket is the most “coat” you’ll ever need. Women’s options included blazers and hip length jackets while men’s included bad-boy bomber jackets, more sophisticated street coats and one really gorgeous suede duster.
While wandering through the men’s section I couldn’t help but note the giant section of men’s shoes – many of which were department store-quality leather. Don’t hate me…but I’m biased. Life’s too short (and most feet are too stinky) to wear plastic shoes!
And since this blogger as a penchant for purple, I loved the purple lace top on display with the purple leather coin purse.
Don’t hesitate to indulge your leather / lace fixation both stylishly and economically at Thrift Town!
