SUIT-able Separates

Do you work in the corporate world? Do you have an interview coming up? Do you work for the Secret Service? Hey…I don’t know who’s out there reading my little blog! ;) If you answered yes to any of these questions you need a classic black suit. I achieved my “suit” by using separates found at my local Thrift Town store. It turned out pretty good…even if I say so myself.

I didn’t set out intending to do a suit look, I was just buying basic pieces in black that I could easily mix and match to create numerous looks. When I was putting looks together for my Thrifty Over 50 blog I thought …Hey!…even though I don’t work in the corporate world there are women who DO and I should show them how easily and INEXPENSIVELY they can do it at Thrift Town! I’m such a giver! ;) You’re welcome…it was my pleasure. :)

Here’s what I bought to create my “suit.” First up was this Liz Claiborne Collection PETITE black blazer for only $7.99! Now, I thought I was going to have a problem finding a pair of dress pants in a petite size , but was I ever wrong! They had a TON of petite sizes to choose from! I chose these Ann Taylor petite black dress pants for only $5.99.

Now, I could have put a plain, old, boring white blouse with it, but what fun is that?! Instead I added this beautiful petite sized Ann Taylor blue…with teeny tiny black and white stripes…long sleeved blouse that I got for only $7.99. I “popped” my collar for this photo…hmm…not sure about that…it looks cute when I see other people do it! Oh well!

This is how I would look at the end of a LONG day at the office! hahaha Did you notice the really cute triple strand of pearls I’m wearing? Yeah…$5.99 and I think they are new. Pearls are classic…they NEVER go out of style.

Don’t judge me for wearing my Lucky Brand NEW….well…they’re not new anymore ’cause I’ve worn them ALOT on this blog…but they really DO go with everything…black ballet flats that I got for $9.99.

So, I bet you’re dying to know how much this corporate “suit” cost me. UNDER $30.00 PEOPLE!!! Sorry for shouting…but isn’t that unreal?!

If you’re not over 60 this would cost you $37.95 but if you’re old…no offense…and it’s a Monday at Thrift Town you would get the senior discount (30% off ) and pay only $26.57!

On a side note…this month is my birthday…and so I am one year closer to getting that senior discount all on my own! Yay me?

Darlene Fadem is a wife and mother with two sons in college. She’s OBVIOUSLY over 50, hence the name Thrifty Over 50. She admits to being a label hunter when thrifting, but pleads the fifth to everything else. ;) When she’s not thrifting she is teaching five year olds how to read, write and be fashionable! 1. Darlene, I loved this blog post. No need to pay retail prices for good quality, good looking professional wardrobe. Especially when people look for a job, their budget is most likely limited, so thrifting their interview outfit (and hopefully a few outfits for starting the job) is a great idea. I just went to Thrift Town myself recently to update my work wardrobe since I lost some weight and some of my clothes don’t fit like they used to (which in this case is a good thing). I found several separates for work, plus lots of tops/shirts and two pairs of shoes for around $100 total. Mixing and matching, I think I got at least 20 outfits out of this. Can’t beat it. :-)

    • Hi there! I’m so glad you enjoyed this post. It’s amazing how many good quality, name brand clothes you can get at Thrift Town for $100 isn’t it? Happy Thrifting and thanks for reading!
