Teacher Look: Kinder Edition

Have you recovered from my “peacock”shirt yet? 😉 This time around my son/photographer/CRITIC said that I look French. That’s not the first time I have been told that….I think it’s my hair. Just sayin’… This time around I decided to put together a look that was appropriate to wear to school that met the dress code , looked cute ( that’s a given ) and could withstand hugs from 19 five year olds! I do like to dress up for work but decided to do a more casual look this time around. You never know when you are going to be lying on the floor pretending to be a princess who is getting measured for a bed. True story people! It was a math lesson . Okay…MAYBE I didn’t need to wear a crown but I was in character. 😉 Let’s talk about my outfit shall we?

I went to my local Thrift Town store in ABQ, NM and started my hunt in the jeans aisle. Sooo many jeans to choose from AND some high end label ones to boot! Can I please label drop right now? Thank you! O.M.G…There was a pair of 7 for all Mankind jeans there!! I know, right?! They retail new for a couple hundred bucks! I tried them on but they were too small. Darn you muffin top! Instead I got these cute Simply Vera Vera Wang jeans for only $7.99.

Next up I hit the sweater rack. I’m a big cardigan wearer because you never know when a hot flash is going to strike and you have to start peeling off clothes! I was pleased to find this NY&CO ombre green sweater ($2.99). Ombre has been trending in fashion for awhile now , so it just goes to show that at Thrift Town you can find the latest fashions. Also, green is the perfect color to wear around children who constantly have their finger up their nose and then want to give you a hug. Am I right?! I’m right. A basic white blouse is something EVERY women should have in her closet and this A.N.A short sleeve white blouse ($5.99) fills that bill nicely.

Now, I like to zhuzh up my outfits with my accessories. I went over to the bin section of Thrift Town and checked out their scarves. As you follow my blog …pretty please :) you will discover that I REALLY like scarves. They can really transform a blah outfit into something chic and French! 😉 This small, square, orange with white stripes and polka dots neckerchief ( that was only 99 cents) , really pops against the green of my sweater. Remember…if it GROWS together it GOES together! The “gold with rhinestone ” bracelet was only $1.99.

The shoes?…BRAND NEW black and gold smoking slippers by Vittorio Ricci ($4.99). Smoking slippers are one of my favorite type of shoes. Why, you ask? They are a huge trend and go with EVERYTHING…skirts, shorts, dresses etc. AND They accommodate the old bunion without having to go up in size! If you don’t know what I’m talking about…check out my post from September 6th. I would put in a link to get you there but I have no idea how to do that! The total cost of this outfit was $24.94. Using my husband to get the 30% off Senior Discount on Monday’s…remember, you must be 60+ to get it and I’m still too young 😉 the total cost ended up being only $17.46! Not bad huh!

Darlene Fadem is a wife and mother with two sons in college. She’s OBVIOUSLY over 50, hence the name Thrifty Over 50. She admits to being a label hunter when thrifting, but pleads the fifth to everything else. 😉 When she’s not thrifting she is teaching five year olds how to read, write and be fashionable! You can also find her styling looks on her fashion blog for older women http://whosaprettygirl.wordpress.com
