YOU HEART WHAT?

New York? Pizza? There are a few iconic tee shirts out there that say I HEART______, and as the wearer, it’s your way of letting the world know you’ve either been to a certain place, or you really do just love something. What’s interesting to me is how much more often we announce our allegiance to companies without thinking twice. Do you actually love the that department store? Or that athletics company? They may be fine companies, but I doubt you’ve looked into their business practices, know their employees, come back time and again, and want to proclaim your love from the rooftops. No, you simply wear their gear that happens to have their company name ALL OVER IT.

The power of the almighty logo compels us to advertise for the brands that do what we want. But for most apparel, doing what we want is more a matter of making a garment with the size, shape & color we want, and less about the consumer actually supporting what the company stands for.

With National Thrift Store Day upon us, we love celebrating with all of you. Here at Thrift Town, there’s a lot to believe in, support and get behind. And with all of our product being secondhand by nature, we’ve always counted on word of mouth and the sheer satisfaction of our customers to be our logo to the world. But if you NEED a logo to sport, we totally have awesome logowear too.

YOU BIG TEES.

In celebrating Thrift Shops everywhere, lets look to a clothing staple you can find anywhere - big tshirts. Here’s a couple girlie ideas on easy conversions you’ll love to wear.

Here’s an adorably personalized piece that was made from a pink long sleeve tee, and a creme tee.

1. Cut tee straight down the middle. You can take more off the collar area if you’d like.

2. Fold in 1 inch along the edges you just cut.

3. Pin down the folded part & sew along the edges. TA DA!

For making the cute rosettes, check out this tutorial. The GREAT thing about thrift & DIY is expressing yourself through what you pick and how you rock it. You can do this with any color tshirt - long or short sleeved… have fun with it!

CONVERTABLE & COMFY.

Tee strips braided or woven together can be almost anything:
a scarf, necklace, belt or bracelet! Depending on how long you make them,
and how many you bundle together. Insert your own creativity & personalize it.

Definitely not a look for everyone but so cute and simple!
Wear for the rest of the warm weather, then layer up for fal with leggings, boots & a jean jacket.

MAKING THE CUT

Make your own pattern of cut-out shirt art! This is just a plain tee, strategically scissored.

Simple as that! New sewing required.

SCARF-TASTICLY SHREDDED

Perfect summer to fall transitional piece: Here’s how to make a scarf from a tshirt like the ones above:

1. Cut your tee into long scarf-like lengths.
2. If needed, sew two strips end to end to get a length you like.
3. 2 inches from the end, begin cutting slits in the fabric, the full length of the scarf, stopping 2 inches from the bottom.
4. Twist the scarf a few times & sew the 2 ends to each other (match up the 2in strips you didn’t cut into at the ends).
5. Enjoy!
