What: DIY Tanks & Shorts for a Relaxed Summer!

Details: Summer is coming so we hit Thrift Town! In less than an hour we had bags full of great finds for some cool summer DIY summer fashions! We actually think we got enough stuff to cover several blogs this summer – stay tuned!

For now, we are focusing on our quest to create tanks & shorts! We grabbed a whole bunch of plain t-shirts and a few t-shirts with graphics – thankfully, Thrift Town has a huge selection! Most of the t-shirts were $.99- 1.99, and the extra bonus was some t-shirts were 50% off due to the weekly colored tag sale! Score! (HINT: Thrift Town’s Annual $.99 cent Tanks, Trunks & Tees Sale is coming up June 13 & 14 – don’t miss it!).

After we loaded our cart with t-shirts, we hit the denim section (our fav!), and scooped up some cute designer and top-label jeans. And then we went home and that’s when all the fun began! Armed with two pairs of scissors and a thirst for summer, we started cutting away the sleeves, necks, legs . . . turning our thrifted finds into tanks & shorts for our soon-to-be causal summer days! We also grabbed some lace fabric from the linens section and embellished our shorts with a little lace trim here and there. One of the coolest tricks we took a risk with some bleach and it paid off — very cool ombre shorts! Pssst: you can see a YouTube DIY vlog on how to do ombre shorts from our Thrifty Tween Styles sidekicks, Gianna & Syd by clicking here.

We’re thinking we might add some red dye next time and make some red, white and blue shorts for the 4th of July! Hmmmm . . .

All of these super simple tanks & shorts ideas (and more!) can be found on our DIY Pinterest Board, so be sure to check out Thrift Town on Pinterest and be inspired. http://pinterest.com/pinthrifttown/thrifty-teens/

Where: We plan to wear our summer creations all summer long – anywhere, anytime! They will be our standards for the beach,
shopping, vacation, camping, hanging out – we’re set!

Why: Oh my! Why not? It was fun, creative and saved us a ton of money. Not to mention the projects were simple. We just needed scissors and little fabric glue – oh, and some bleach! Plus reusing items is all about saving the environment and it’s great to not have to buy new stuff! Bring on Summer! ~ Bridget & Jess
