Sixties Revival

To say that I am a fan of 60’s fashion would be an
understatement. I am an outright, fanatically OBSESSED devotee of all things
60’s; be it the fashion or accessories. Have you ever seen the movie Midnight
in Paris? Where the character Owen Wilson is obsessed with the 20’s in Paris
and is somehow magically transported back to the era. Well, I sometimes wish I
were magically transported to the 60’s where I could relive the birth of the
shift dress, big hair, cat eye liner, and fashion designers like Mary Quant and
Yves Saint Laurent. Just talking about it gets me all giddy.

The 60’s were a time in history when women really began to
embrace their femininity in ways not seen previously. A time when prim and
proper was tossed aside momentarily for a more flirtatious mini skirt or shift
dress. Mary Quant was the designer credited with the ‘mini’ and one of my
favorite quotes by her read: ‘the fashionable woman wears clothes. The clothes
don’t wear her.’ I couldn’t agree more!

Something I’ve learned throughout my fashionable years is to
wear an outfit proudly. When you do, you exude a kind of confidence that can be
spotted a mile away. Clothing has personality and can transform someone from
ordinary to extraordinary in a matter of minutes. Why not use your outfit to express who you
are and have fun with it!

My fashion taste changes all the time, but currently I’m
smitten for 60’s fashion; shift dresses in particular. When I put on a vintage
or contemporary shift dress my posture is instantly more upright, I smile
brighter, and my over all demeanor just glows. A shift dress is simple by
design and basically creates an A-line effect. The length is typically to the
knees or done as a mini. Most prints in the 60’s were really vibrant, bold, and
took a rather simple shift dress to a whole new level of ‘wow.’ So ladies, if
you want to put a little ‘wow’ in your wardrobe this Spring, might I suggest a
fun, graphic, and colorful dress. A 60’s dress can be that perfect piece you’ve
been looking for in your wardrobe. I currently own ten of them! I told you I loved them…

On a recent trip to Thrift Town I had the luck of finding not
one, but two amazing 60’s inspired dresses. Both are contemporary, but resemble
something straight out of the era. The white dress, though pattern-less, is
perfect for Spring. And how fun are the gold earrings I found at Thrift Town
the same day?! They really make the outfit sing. As for the yellow graphic dress,
I absolutely adore it. And for a mere $2.99, who wouldn’t love it?! Did I
mention that it’s silk, too?! The white necklace adds a little flair to it and
was found at Thrift Town as well. Now, you know I had to throw in my 60’s
vintage yellow hat for fun 😉

So next time you’re at Thrift Town, keep the 60’s fashion in
the back of your mind and remember that the shift dress, bold colors, and
dramatic prints can be a girls best fashionable friend…
