DIY Game Piece Jewelry
ALL FUN & GAMES
There is a huge DIY craze sweeping Etsy & craft fairs all over: Game Piece Jewelry!
Whether it’s Scrabble or any other game that has tiny letter & number pieces, people are making wearable darling things out of it. If you think about it, game pieces are the perfect size for a pendant - and with letters on them - easily customizable: An “A” pendant for Anna, “B” for Brittany, etc.
As if this wasn’t fun enough, the crafty DIY-savvy took it a step further and figured out a way to not only make customizable letter pendants, but also be able to put any image on it and have a glass-looking finish. Awesome!
{ Aren’t these so cute? }
Personal pictures, logos, words - you name it. If you can get the image that small, the sky’s the limit! You can make these yourself, and it really is up to you how simple or complex you want to make it. For the glass-finished pendants, I found a couple tutorials on how to make them:
- This tutorial is very thorough & informative.
- This tutorial is a bit more personal & has great pictures.
In non-Scrabble jewelry, here’s a couple ideas sent in from a customer who made jewelry from a different game.
Take apart the numbers and go to town!
In buying supplies for these projects: first stop, Thrift Town. Second stop, craft store.
There are Etsy stores & other places online that sell Scrabble & other game pieces in bulk for just this kind of project… but honestly, they’re going to thrift stores and buying secondhand games at really low prices & then marking them up for you. Cut out the middle-man/woman and go searching through the game section at your local Thrift Town yourself. You might find more than you set out to and come up with some great crafty ideas of your own!

I was wondering when the deadline is for the BEST THRIFTED OUTIFT contest is/was. If it’s passed, when is the next one?
I have the best outfits!! I’d like to submit.
Thanks,
Claudia
Claudia,
The best thrifted outfit contest is running the whole month of March. Get your submission(s) in before the month is over, and you’re golden! Looking forward to seeing what you’ve got! - Kari
I love Scrabble and their tiles, and this is just another beautiful way to display those goods! Thanks Kari.
Sure thing, Heather. I know I have a couple die-hard Scrabble lovers in my life that would really treasure a gift like this.
These days, I’m into deconstructing, reconstructing, and repurposing clothing. I’ve done a few but I need inspiration….got any ideas?
What a tremendous idea! I have often passed on Scrabble games at thrift stores and garage sales for fear of purchasing an incomplete set. With this creative alternative I know I will have use for it either way 😀
I love how the Scrabble game can turn into a unique necklace. I saw an exact piece of the scrabble word but turned into a ring. Super cute ^-^
Oh my!! Those scrabble necklaces are the cutest!!! Now I have to head to thrift town and find a scrabble game! I am so making these for people for Christmas!!!
