How-To: Matching Kitchen Items
Custom Canisters keep you
organized for cheap!
I’m starting to worry about my obsession with AQUA…
but that’s another topic entirely.
I found these kitchen canisters, drab and dated with tons of potential, at Thrift Town for about three bucks each. Pottery Barn sells some just like these for way more. Canisters are a great thing to have in the kitchen or around the house.
I painted up these Thrift Town beauties with aqua spray paint
and a clear varnish to protect them from food.
I labeled them with tags using craft store metal-rimmed tags and my home computer and printer.
Voila… and here you have it! Some pretty, color-coordinated kitchen canisters that I can proudly display on my counters for all to see. I did toy around with a few other uses such as: to store other food items like cookies, crackers, cereal, granola bars; on the kid’s desk with color crayons, pens, and erasers; or in the bathroom for soaps, salts, seashells, cotton balls, etc. The list of uses is endless.
If you haven’t noticed, being organized is very hip these days, especially on home decorating shows. What’s not to love about three great canisters? Next time you’re at Thrift Town see how you can get organized - I dare you!
Happy Hunting! Ashley

This is my absolute favorite DIY item on this blog! With simple paint and the lables, it made these items 80% more desireable! Right when i saw i though “I want those!”. I know what to hunt for next;) Fantastic job!
Glad you like them - these canisters ARE so cute! You really could go to a high priced store & find something like this. It’s fun that Ashley found matching canisters, but even if there isn’t a matching set, I like mixing different items ( like different styles of canisters) and then, still using something like the aqua paint to unify them all. There is SO much you can do with a can of spray paint! 🙂 Have fun thrifting!
