Easy Last-Minute DIY Costume Ideas

HALLO-WEENIE.

I have a major confession to make — I’m not a fan of Halloween. I know. It’s shocking. But before you write me off as un-American, hear me out. Most people who LOVE the holiday are into spooky stuff, right? Haunted houses, blood and guts and watching scary movies? I want none of it. It all scares the bajeezes outta me. BUT what I *do* love are the three C’s:

CREATIVITY,
CELEBRATING
(and maybe most importantly)
CANDY.

So for me, I just skip past all the creepiness and embrace the decorating, togetherness, costumes and of course, the week-long sugar high.

But not everyone can go all out in celebrating. In the equation that still equals the same amount of FUN, sometimes you gotta amp up the creativity end of things when the funds are lacking.

For those of us with limited funds for specialty costumes, here’s some inspiration for some simple DIY thrifted looks.

Meet Melody (& her husband Luke).

She’s a smart, sassy writer/graphic designer who lives in Sacramento. She loves dressing up so much that her birthday party every year is a themed costume party. This year it was Firefly (the TV show) themed.

She plotted every detail of the food, decor and costumes, and her friends really got into the swing of it.

Melody is the kinda girl that has her parties and Halloween costumes planned out a couple years in advance. This Halloween she decided she and husband Luke would go as an unlikely non-couple duo:

Han Solo & Luke Skywalker.

Behold her finalized Solo costume, pieces purchased almost entirely from Thrift Town:

The look all put together is pretty stinkin awesome.
And going with you husband named Luke (Skywalker) is even better!
