Secondhand Halloween Costumes 2010
HallowGreen Wrap Up
Halloween is such a fun time of year, and we at Thrift Town especially look forward to seeing the wonderfully creative second-hand costumes our customers come up with for our HallowGreen Costume Contest. And let me tell you - this year’s applicants did not disappoint! If you rocked a great secondhand costume this year, get an entry form & show us what you’ve got! We’ll be announcing winners soon, but for now, here’s a couple more entries.
Coni V : Mr. Peanut
I was recently invited to a Hysterical Historical Halloween party where the guests were asked to dress as a historical figure from a time in history up to 1970. I am disabled and must use a cane to get around so I came up with the idea of using an oversized creme bathrobe I’d bought secondhand to create a Mr. Peanut costume.
Here’s what I did: I first dyed the bathrobe a golden color. I then removed the sleeves and shirred the fabric on my sewing machine with elastic thread to give it a bumpy texture. And finally, I placed black rectangular shapes on the front to complete the look. The top hat was also a Thrift Town purchase. I fashioned the spats from white fabric remnants that I had saved from a previous project. The monocle is from a dollar-store magnifying glass that I trimmed down and attached a cord to. I already had the tights and leotards on hand. Total cost was $5. I also placed a tiny bag of peanuts and a typewritten description of how Mr. Peanut became a part of our history on each person’s place setting.

Kari & Charles S. : Barney & Betty Rubble
This is my husband & I in our 100% Thrift Town costumes. We thought this would be a perfect costume idea since I already have the dark hair (& he doesn’t like having to wear shoes. haha) My dress, shoes & white stone pendant were all from Thrift Town. For his costume - I bought a big tan sheet at Thrift Town and sewed his costume in under an hour. Our costumes were a big hit and I put them both together for under $15!! We had such a fun evening out with friends, and our costumes were a big hit.
If you had a great second-hand costume - there is still time to enter our contest!
We’re accepting entries until November 15th, so get those pics to us!
